Bangabandhu Tunnel reopens after 18 hours
After keeping closed for 18 hours to avoid the impact of Cyclone Remal, the Bangabandu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel has been reopened to traffic. The tunnel was opened for traffic at noon on Monday (May 27).
“It was decided to close the tunnel for 12 hours from 6:00pm on Sunday (May 27) to 6:00am Monday, but the authorities kept the tunnel closed until 12:00 noon as the situation was not normal. At this time, 4 flood gates on both ends of the tunnel were kept closed,” said Tanvir Rifat, assistant manager (toll and traffic) of the tunnel.
He said the traffic flow resumed after the tunnel was opened at noon.
