Bangladesh assistant coach Pothas resigns before Champions Trophy
Nic Pothas, the assistant coach of the Bangladesh national cricket team, has stepped down, citing family reasons. His resignation is a significant setback for Bangladesh cricket just ahead of the Champions Trophy.
"Yes, his contract ran until 2026, but he resigned due to family reasons," confirmed BCB cricket operations in-charge Shahriar Nafees in a statement on Friday.
Although his contract was supposed to run until March 2026, Pothas recently shared an emotional post announcing the end of his time with Bangladesh.
In his post, Pothas wrote, "All good things must come to an end, and like everything else, this was destined to end. During my time with the BCB, I had incredible moments with amazing people. We made unforgettable memories, created remarkable history, and set new records."
Pothas mentioned that he is currently spending time with his family and said, "I’m taking some time at home now. We’ll see what the next chapter holds. It’s an exciting year ahead for Bangladesh. I wish you all the best, and I’ll miss you."
Pothas joined the Bangladesh national team as an assistant coach in April 2023, focusing mainly on fielding. Before this role, he had worked with the national teams of the West Indies and Sri Lanka.
