Bangladesh clinch gold in Olympics floorball
Bangladesh girls have created history by winning gold medals in floorball at the Special Olympics Winter Games.
The team of Swarna-Fatema won the gold medal of this event by defeating Ukraine in the final.
Bangladesh defeated Ukraine 4-2 in the final of the women's floorball event in Turin, Italy on Saturday (March 15).
Swarna Akhter, Fatema Akhter, Fabia Khatun and Tamalin scored four goals for Bangladesh in the final.
The Bangladesh team- Fabia Khatun, Tanmun Islam, Tamalin, Tanjila Khatun, Fatema Akhter, Anita Khatun, Swarna Akhter and Mukta Akhter.
This is the first time that an Italian city was hosting this competition.
Bangladesh's journey to Italy was led by Special Olympics Bangladesh (SOB) Sports Director and National Award-winning athlete Engineer Sheikh Abul Hashem. Abul Hashem's wife, SOB director and acting president of Bangladesh Badminton Federation Kamrun Nahar Dana, is the deputy of the team. Zahid Hossain Raju is in charge of coaching the team while Farida Parveen is the assistant coach. Both have expressed their expectations for the Bangladesh floorball team in the Games.
Although floorball is a new sport for the country, it has many similarities with floor hockey. Bangladesh was the champion in this event in the previous edition of the Games.
Naturally, this time the floorball team has done well in Italy.
