Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin said, "The government has already taken several initiatives regarding the 37 percent additional tariff imposed by the United States. A delegation led by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed will go to the United States next week to discuss these issues. They will meet with the country's Trade Representative (USTR) on the issue."

He said this at a view-sharing meeting titled 'US 37% Tariff Imposition: Challenges, Opportunities and Government's Actions'. The Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF) organized the view-sharing meeting at the Secretariat's media center on Wednesday.

The coomerce adviser said that the delegation will also include Lutfe Siddiqui, the Chief Adviser's Special Envoy for International Affairs, and Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman.

When asked what the discussions will be about, he said, "Our main goal is to reduce the trade deficit. For that, we will discuss which other products can be imported that benefit both countries. It will also include the issue of removing tariffs and non-tariff barriers. At the same time, we will also discuss what they want, directly related to this issue." He further said that after the delegation returns, he himself will visit the country to meet with the US Commerce Secretary.
