The World Economic Forum (WEF) has said that Bangladesh will have to face five major risks this year.

This information was revealed in the 'Global Risks Report 2025' published on the organisation's website on Friday (January 17).

The WEF said that inflation is the biggest risk facing Bangladesh in 2025. The other risks include extreme weather (floods, heat waves), pollution (air, water, soil), unemployment and lack of economic opportunities, and economic downturn (recession, stagnation).

Explaining how these risks were identified, the WEF said it conducted an executive opinion survey (EOS) to identify the risks. It is a broad concept-based survey. The survey asked participants, “What are the biggest challenges facing your country in the next two years?”

The WEF also provided participants with a list of 34 risks. From that, the survey participants identified five main risks.

The WEF report identifies 10 key global risk areas for this year. Other risks in the top 10 include extreme weather, geopolitical conflicts, disinformation and misinformation, social polarisation, significant changes in the global system, lack of economic opportunity or unemployment, erosion of human rights or civil liberties, and inequality.
