Bangladesh moves up 2 places in FIFA rankings
Bangladesh has moved up two places in the FIFA rankings, while India has dropped one place. The world football governing body, FIFA, published the men's football team rankings on Thursday (March 3). Bangladesh has climbed to 183rd place, gaining 5.16 points, with a total of 904.16 points, surpassing Dominica and Brunei Darussalam.
India, which recently played a match against Jamal Bhuiyan’s team in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers, has dropped one place and is now in 127th position. On March 25, Bangladesh played India to a goalless draw in the Asian Cup qualifiers, marking Hamza Dewan Choudhury’s debut match. The performance with Hamza in the team showed clear improvement, which is now reflected in the FIFA rankings.
India was already ahead of Bangladesh in the rankings. Moreover, the away match draw with Bangladesh has had a positive effect on the rankings. India, despite winning a practice match against the Maldives after a long time, lost 1.97 points due to their draw with Bangladesh. With 1132.03 points, India has dropped from 126th to 127th place.
Bangladesh’s upcoming international match is against Singapore on June 10 in Dhaka, as part of the Asian Cup qualifiers. Although Singapore holds a higher ranking than Bangladesh, a victory for Bangladesh could improve their position in the rankings by the next update on July 10. In South Asia, the Maldives, which has fallen two places to 164th, is ranked above Bangladesh. Nepal (175) and Bhutan (182) maintain their positions, while Pakistan (198) and Sri Lanka (200) trail behind Bangladesh.
