Bangladesh had a poor start in the first Test against South Africa. Batting in the first innings at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Najmul Hossain Shanto's team faced significant challenges.

He was soon followed by Mominul Haque (4), Shanto (7), Mushfiqur Rahim (11), Liton Das (1), and Mehedi Hasan Miraz (13), all of whom were dismissed in quick succession.

For South Africa, pace bowler Wiaan Mulder took three wickets, while Kagiso Rabada claimed two and Keshav Maharaj took one.
