Antigua Test
Bangladesh trail by 440 runs after day 2
At the end of the second day of the Antigua Test between Bangladesh and the West Indies, Bangladesh is on the back foot, trailing by 440 runs.
The West Indies, having lost the toss and been asked to bat, declared their first innings at 450 for 9, after a brilliant unbeaten century from Justin Greaves. Mikyle Luis made 97 off 218 balls, while Alick Athanaze contributed a quick-fire 90 from just 130 balls.
Among the Bangladeshi bowlers, Hasan Masud took 3 wickets for 87 runs, while both Taskin and Miraz claimed 2 wickets each, conceding 76 and 99 runs, respectively. Taijul, the left-arm spinner, took 1 wicket for 111 runs.
Bangladesh's batting faltered in response, with the opening pair collapsing for just 20 runs. Zakir Hasan and Mahmudul Hasan Joy were both dismissed within seven balls. Zakir, a left-hander, was bowled by Jayden Seals off the last ball of the 10th over, having scored 15 runs from 34 balls. Joy, a right-hander, was caught at slip off Alzarri Joseph's bowling for 5 runs from 33 balls. He was given a life during his innings but failed to make the most of it.
Mominul Haque and Shahadat Hossain Dipu are battling to build resistance after Bangladesh lost 2 wickets for 21 runs. Their unbroken partnership added 19 runs from 54 balls before play was called off early due to poor light. Mominul, the experienced campaigner, was on 7 runs from 23 balls, while Shahadat, making his return after eight months, remained unbeaten on 10 runs from 31 balls.
Bangladesh will have to score 211 more runs to avoid the follow-on.
