Bangladesh's second innings in the Dhaka Test against South Africa fell short of expectations, with the top order collapsing again. However, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudul Hasan Joy steadied the innings in the later stages. By the end of the second day, the Tigers had scored 101 runs for the loss of 3 wickets, still trailing by 101 runs. Notably, Mushfiqur Rahim became the first Bangladeshi to reach 6,000 runs in Test cricket.

In the second innings, left-handed opener Shadman Islam (1) gave away his wicket with a poor shot. Mominul Haque, coming in at number three, got out for a duck. Later, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Joy built a partnership of 50 runs, but Shanto was dismissed for 23. Joy and Mushfiq added 42 more runs to end the day.

In the first innings, Bangladesh was dismissed for a mere 106 runs, with South Africa responding by scoring 308. On the first day, South Africa found themselves in trouble, losing 6 wickets with only a 34-run lead.

However, a crucial 119-run partnership between wicketkeeper-batsman Kyle Verreynne and pace all-rounder Wiaan Mulder shifted the momentum. Mulder contributed 54 runs, while Verreynne reached his second Test century, scoring 114. Dane Piedt also added 32 valuable runs to South Africa's total.
