Bangladeshi national Md Alauddin, who was injured in firing by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF), has been handed over to the police after treatment.

The 22-year-old youth has been sent to jail after being produced before the court.

Earlier, the BSF personnel took Alauddin, who was shot in the leg, to the hospital for treatment.

BSF officials claimed that five Bangladeshi 'smugglers' including Alauddin were trying to illegally enter Indian territory through the Mallikpur border at Dakshin Dinajpur in Indian state of West Bengal, in the early hours of February 7. But after being stopped, they attacked BSF jawan Parvez Kumar. He was also hit with a sharp weapon. Parvez opened fire on the smugglers in self-defense. While the rest fled, Alauddin was lying on the border with a bullet wound in his leg. The BSF rescued him and quickly took him to the nearby Gangarampur Government Hospital.

BSF sources said they treated Alauddin in the hospital under their supervision. Once he recovered, he was handed over to Gangarampur police station on Tuesday (February 11) for legal action.

After the incident was reported to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), the BSF-BGB also held a flag meeting among themselves. The meeting also discussed why such unpleasant incidents are happening again and again.
