Bangladesh's relationship with US will be more stronger in future: FM
Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has expressed hope that Bangladesh's relationship with the United States will be better and stronger in the future.
He expressed this optimism in response to a question from journalists on contemporary issues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday (March 11).
United States International Trade Commission (USITC) has started an investigation into the top five countries including Bangladesh in garment exports to the US market. Journalists drew the attention of the foreign minister in this regard.
In response, the foreign minister said, "The United States is investigating, which is not correct. We have been in discussions with them for a long time on the development of labor rights and some organizations have sat with us as part of those discussions. This is the regular process regarding labor rights. It has happened before. That is the development of the working environment and the development of the labor environment. We have a discussion about this, it is going on."
Referring to Joe Biden's letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the head of the government's return letter, Hasan Mahmud said, "US President Joe Biden has expressed his intention to take the relationship between the two countries to a second level and a new height by writing the letter. The Prime Minister in the return letter also talked about improving relations, making them stronger and more multi-dimensional. Our relationship will be more beautiful, stronger, moving forward in the days to come."
