Bangladesh’s Tetra ranks world's top 50 climate tech startups list
Tetra, a climate-tech startup from Bangladesh, has ranked among the top 50 climate tech startups globally. The startup has already received many international recognitions. One of these recognitions is featured on the World Economic Forum list.
At the largest global conference on climate (COP-28) held in Dubai in 2023, 13 startups from different countries received funding, including Tetra. The startup was founded in 2018 by Sabrina Rashid Sheonty from Bangladesh. Tetra, which has received various national and international recognitions, focuses on water resources strategy, environment, climate change, energy, and infrastructure. The startup is dedicated to developing technical solutions for environmental, water, climate, and energy-related challenges in both the coastal regions of Bangladesh and around the world.
As a part of these efforts, Sheonty also conducted a study on the impact of climate change and rising salinity levels on surface and groundwater in the Dacope and Batiaghata upazilas of Khulna. During the research, she utilized a solar-powered water filtration system. Subsequently, approximately 68 percent of the population expressed satisfaction with the filtered water.
Regarding this, the founder of the startup talked to Views Bangladesh. She said, "I have been contemplating Bangladesh's water issues for quite some time. Tetra has been founded to deliver sustainable solutions to these challenges."
Sabrina Rashid Sheonty, a graduate of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in Water Resources Strategy and a post-graduate from the University of Alberta in Canada, has an impressive track record of achievements. In 2018, Sheonty won the UNDP and Unilever Safe Water Challenge. The same year, she secured the title of regional finalist in the Hult Prize, recognized as the "Nobel Prize for students" by the Clinton Foundation. Earlier, she had won a competition on renewable energy organized by the Ministry of Energy in 2017 and a technical competition in 2016.
Apart from these, Sheonty serves as a leader in the Youth Policy Forum's Energy and Infrastructure Policy Team. Additionally, she represented Bangladesh in Asia's largest English debate tournament back in 2016.
Sheonty currently holds the position of a water resources engineer in Canada.
