Banks have to strictly adhere to security guidelines: BB
The Bangladesh Bank (BB) has found that many banks in the country are not following the security guidelines at their outlets and branches.
As a result, accidents like gold disappearing from bank lockers and looting of bank money through robbery occur.
In this situation, the central bank has instructed to keep CCTV in operation all the time in all bank branches and keep adequate armed guards for security.
On Monday (June 3), the Banking Regulation and Policy Department (BRPD) of BB issued a directive to ensure the security of bank branches and sent it to the top executives of the banks.
According to the directive, in order to ensure the security of all scheduled bank outlets, the required number of CCTV or IP cameras or spy cameras should be installed at the entrance of the bank branch, inside the branch, outside the branch and in all types of IT rooms.
The directive said that CCTV or spy cameras have to be connected to the central information network of the bank, and measures for round-the-clock monitoring have to be taken.
The directive also said that an adequate number of trained armed security guards should be provided for the security of the bank.
It is to be noted that the central bank issued the directive after the loss of 149 bhoris of gold worth about Tk 1.5 crore from the locker of Islami Bank's Chawkbazar branch in Chattogram recently.
