Barcelona crush Dortmund 4-0 to step closer to semis
Barcelona took a big step towards the Champions League semi-finals by thrashing Borussia Dortmund 4-0 in the first leg of their quarter-final clash. The Catalan club secured this dominant victory at home on Thursday night (April 10).
Before the match, Dortmund’s coach had warned about Barcelona’s attacking threat. However, on the field, the German side struggled against the relentless pressure from the Spanish giants. Robert Lewandowski’s brace played a crucial role in putting Hansi Flick’s team in firm control of the tie.
Barcelona started aggressively, creating three chances within the first seven minutes through Lamine Yamal and Lewandowski. It didn’t take long for them to find the breakthrough. In the 25th minute, Raphinha gave Barça the lead, slightly deflecting a shot from Íñigo Martínez’s header after a free kick.
Dortmund’s defense was under constant pressure as Barça continued their relentless attacks. The first half ended 1-0, but just three minutes into the second half (48’), Lewandowski doubled the lead with a header from a Yamal cross. The Polish striker scored his second goal in the 66th minute, extending the lead to 3-0.
Dortmund was completely outplayed, and in the 77th minute, Yamal sealed the victory with a goal assisted by Raphinha, putting the final nail in the German side’s coffin. With this commanding 4-0 win in the first leg, Barcelona took a huge step towards the semi-finals.
