Munia Rape-Murder Case
Bashundhara MD, 7 others cleared
Bashundhara Managing Director (MD) Sayem Sobhan Anvir and 7 others have been cleared of the case of rape and murder of college student Mosarat Jahan Munia.
The Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal 8 on Wednesday (March 20) accepted a probe report that cleared all the accused, including Sayem Sobhan Anvir.
Judge Shawkat Ali of the tribunal passed the order rejecting the no-confidence petition submitted by Munia’s sister Nusrat Jahan Tania on the final report submitted by the PBI. Special Public Prosecutor Mohammad Rezaul Karim confirmed the matter.
According to the case documents, police on April 26, 2021, recovered the body of Munia, hanging from a ceiling fan at a rented apartment at Gulshan in Dhaka.
21-year-old Munia’s elder sister Nusrat filed a case against Anvir on the same night.
The police found no involvement of Anvir in the death and submitted the final report to the court on July 19, 2021, giving a clean chit to the key accused.
On September 6, 2021, Nusrat filed another case with the Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal 8 alleging that Munia was raped and murdered. However, the PBI submitted the final report in the case in 2022 clearing the accused of the charges.
Subsequently, Muniya`s sister Nusrat Jahan filed a complaint against this report. Following the hearing on March 10, the court issued its order today (March 20).
