BCB postpones Hridoy's punishment by a year due to Tamim's intervention
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has suspended the remaining one-match ban of Mohammedan captain Towhid Hridoy for one year.
Earlier, Towhid Hridoy was initially banned for two matches for misbehaving with an umpire in the DPL. Later, the ban was reduced to a one-match ban after the bails were changed. But after strong criticism of that decision, the league's technical committee upheld the previous verdict. As a result, the 23-year-old batter was again banned for one match. The one-match ban has already been implemented.
Mohammedan senior cricketers, especially captain Tamim Iqbal, played an important role in this decision. Tamim and other seniors pressured the board to reconsider the punishment. In view of their pressure, Hridoy's punishment has been suspended for one year. If Hridoy is involved in any other disciplinary violation during this period, the suspended ban will also be implemented.
Tamim Iqbal spoke about Hridoy's punishment after a meeting with BCB President Farooq Ahmed today. He called Hridoy's punishment twice for the same incident 'ridiculous'.
Tamim said, 'Tawhid Hridoy has been punished. But we heard that he was suspended for another match tomorrow. We don't know what the rules are. This is ridiculous. The BCB let him play, how can they punish him again!'
After the meeting, Tami said that the cricketers wanted a quick solution. He said, 'The biggest stakeholders in Bangladeshi cricket are the cricketers. You can't do this to cricketers. I requested the board president to come, and he came. There were 2 other board directors with him. There was a long discussion. I said, take a quick decision, let us know. Since the game is tomorrow. I think they will give a decision very soon.'
