BCL leader, 6 others jailed for suspected links to KNF
The President of Ruma Upazila Chhatra League and six others, detained for their alleged ties to KNF regarding the Sonali Bank robbery, assault, and weapons looting in Bandarban's Ruma, have been sent to jail as per the court's directive. When the accused were produced in the court of Bandarban Chief Judicial Magistrate ASM Emran on Tuesday afternoon, the court ordered them to be sent to jail.
The accused are- Ruma Upazila Chhatra League president Bhan Noon Noam (33), Lal Noon Noam (68), Lal David Bawm (42), Chamlian Bawm (56), Lal Pek Lian (32), Lal Min Bawm (56) and Bhan Biak Leanne Bawm (23). All of them are residents of Munlai Para of Ruma Upazila.
Fazlul Haque, Court Police Inspector of Bandarban Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, confirmed the matter. He said, "Seven people arrested in the case of bank robbery, assault, and robbery of 14 weapons of law enforcement forces in Ruma were brought to the court. The court heard the complaint and ordered the accused to be sent to jail."
According to joint forces, the Kuki Chin National Front (KNF), an armed outfit in the hills of Ruma and Thanchi, went on a rampage, robbing a bank, attacking a mosque, kidnapping a bank manager, looting 14 weapons of law enforcement. Joint forces including Army, Rab, and Arms Police are carrying out the operation to stop the anti-state activities. In the raid on Monday, 7 people including Bhan Noon Noam, president of Ruma Upazila Chhatra League, were arrested from the remote Munlai Para area of Ruma Upazila on charges of involvement with KNF.
So far, a total of 78 individuals have been arrested in connection with the bank robbery and mosque attack in Ruma-Thanchi, as well as cases involving theft of money and weapons, and the kidnapping of a bank manager. They have all been sent to Bandarban jail.
