Beit Alpha holds special event to mark 'World Autism Awareness Day'
On the occasion of 'World Autism Awareness Day' on Tuesday (2 April), Bangladesh, along with other countries in the world, observed the day to create social awareness about autism and establish their rights by keeping the theme "Moving from Surviving to Thriving: Autistic individuals share regional perspectives" in front.
Beit Alpha organized a discussion and a painting competition for autistic children at 3.00pm on Tuesday in capital's Mirpur. At the end of the progrmame, almost two hundred participants were awarded with toys of different colors and Eid clothes.
Media personality, photographer, and lyricist Shankar Shawjal attended the event as the chief guest. He said, "Autistic children need scope for sharing their ideas." He also emphasized creating social awareness about autism and didn’t forget to urge the affluent members of society to come forward.
Freedom Fighter Anwarul Islam presided over the programme. He said, "I mastered child care during the Liberation War. Autistic kids need basic skills. Sorting their artwork, like today, is crucial. Note your child's preferences; inform family and teachers."
Among others, Professor and artist Robiul Islam, Narayanganj Fine Arts Faculty Principal Shamsul Alam, Designer Shahrin Huq, Creative Director Kajal Arefin Ome, and Actor and Dakbaksho President Ziaul Haque Palash spoke on the occasion.
Artist Ashraful Kabir Konok conducted the art competition which was coordinated by Beit Alpha Autistic Foundation Co-General Secretary Rokib Howlader, Foundation Member Nomira Ahmad, and Nazifa Mila.
Armin Soma, the president of the organization, and Romel Morshed, the vice president, performed overall supervision.
