The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India's Border Security Force (BSF) will hold a meeting in February on border issues.

As part of the 55th biennial talks, a BGB delegation is scheduled to meet with the BSF from February 16 to 19.

The DG-level meeting between India and Bangladesh, which was postponed twice, is likely to be held in New Delhi in the third week of February. The meeting is likely to discuss issues of mutual interest regarding the border between the two countries, according to BSF sources.

During the meeting, New Delhi and Dhaka are likely to discuss, among other issues, the “increased infiltration efforts” following the change of government in Bangladesh, news agency PTI reported.

The date for the talks was postponed twice last year. However, this will be the first top-level talks between the forces of the two countries since the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5, 2024.

According to sources, the issues related to the objection raised by Bangladesh regarding the construction of fences at 92 identified places along the 4,096 km international border between the two neighbouring countries will also be discussed in the meeting.

The Joint Record of Discussion (JRD) of the meeting will be signed by the BSF and BGB chiefs after the meeting. It will be formulated on the basis of the discussions.

Mentionable, the heads of the two forces meet twice a year with officials from home, defense, counter-narcotics and other agencies. The first meeting between top officials of BGB and BSF was held on December 2, 1975. In 1993, it was decided to hold biennial meetings in Delhi and Dhaka. This time, the meeting will be held in New Delhi.

Analysts from both countries are currently looking forward to this meeting. They believe that the talks will improve relations between the two countries.
