The King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck is coming to Dhaka next Monday (March 25) after 11 years.

He is reportedly coming to Dhaka on a four-day visit to participate in the Independence Day programme at the invitation of Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, in a notice regarding the visit of the king of Bhutan to Bangladesh, the government has declared the king of Bhutan as a very important person during his visit to Bangladesh from March 25 to 29, under the authority given in Clause (a) of Section 2 of the Special Security Force Act 2021.

According to the sources, the King of Bhutan will participate in the President's function at Savar and Bangabhaban during the visit. Apart from this, some MoUs and agreements may be renewed during his visit.

Former Foreign Secretary and Bangabandhu Chair of Delhi University Md Shahidul Haque told the media, "After the formation of the new government in January, he will be the first guest from abroad. As such, the visit of the king of Bhutan to Dhaka carries special significance."

Before this, on July 9 last year, Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuk made a short stopover in Dhaka on his way from Bhutan to Bangkok. At that time, he stayed at Shahjalal International Airport for about an hour.
