Bijoy Express: Rail link restored 14 hours after train derailment
After 14 hours of derailment of Bijay Express train at Tejer Bazar in Nangalkot upazila of Cumilla on Sunday, the rail route has been restored on Monday (March 18).
The railway authorities declared the downline suitable for train movement around 5:30 am on Monday.
Chattogram Division Railway Manager Mohammad Saiful Islam said, "After the derailment of Bijay Express train, the upline was completely crushed. Most of the bogies are knocked down the line. About 500 meters of railway line was damaged in the train derailment incident."
Two relief trains started the rescue operation around 7.00pm. After 9 hours of effort till 4.00pm, the bogies on the down line were pulled out of the line.
Now train movement is normal. The Parjatak Express (from Dhaka to Cox's Bazar) passed that place, said Nangalkot Station Master Md Jamal.
Earlier on Sunday, the Bijay Express train derailed at Nangalkot in Cumilla around 2.00pm. Out of the 18 coaches on the train, 9 coaches along with the engine derailed. Due to this, the railway communication of Chattogram with the rest of the country was halted. Several trains got stuck at different stations.
