BIP celebrates 'Golden Jubilee'
Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP) recently kicked off a two-day celebration marking its Golden Jubilee and World Urban Planning Day.
The event featured a national seminar on "Planning the Whole Country, Building a Balanced Bangladesh Without Discrimination", held on Saturday, November 9, at the BIP Conference Hall, located in Planners Tower, Dhaka.
The seminar was chaired by BIP President, Professor Dr. Adil Muhammad Khan, and featured notable figures from the planning and development sectors.
Professor Dr Golam Rahman, the founder president of BIP, graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Major General (Retd.) Md Siddikur Rahman Sarkar, Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK), and Emeritus Professor ATM Nurul Amin of the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand, were special guests.
Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharaf Uddin Ahmad Chowdhury also participated in the event.
The seminar was designed to spark discussions on creating a more balanced and equitable Bangladesh through effective national planning. BIP General Secretary, Planner Syed Shahriar Amin, and Board Member (Academic Affairs), Planner Uswatun Mahera Khushi, presented keynote speeches, emphasizing the need for comprehensive and inclusive urban development.
The seminar also featured an open discussion session, where prominent urban development experts, including Sharif Md. Tarekuzzaman, senior planner at the Department of Urban Development, and Engineer Md. Nuruullah, contributed valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities of planning a sustainable future for the country.
This celebration of BIP's 50-year legacy highlights the organization’s dedication to advancing urban planning in Bangladesh and its ongoing commitment to fostering dialogue and solutions for balanced national development.
