BNP leader Salahuddin calls for clear election announcement by December

BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed expressed hope that a clear announcement regarding the next national election will be made by December.

Speaking at a food distribution event at the High Court Mazar in Dhaka, held on the occasion of former President and BNP founder Ziaur Rahman’s death anniversary, Salahuddin urged for a transparent and timely electoral process.

“We expect a definitive declaration to hold the national election by December,” he said, stressing the nation’s desire for a free, fair, and acceptable election.

Salahuddin praised Ziaur Rahman for introducing multi-party democracy and championing judicial independence, noting these efforts laid the foundation for Bangladesh’s prosperity.

He alleged that Ziaur Rahman’s assassination was part of a deliberate plan to undermine democracy. “Let us turn our grief into strength to build a society based on equality,” he added.

Referring to the sacrifices of students who gave their lives in July and August, Salahuddin said their dreams inspire the continued struggle for a strong democratic and constitutional framework.

The food distribution program was organized by the Bangladesh Nationalist Lawyers’ Forum and began after Salahuddin’s remarks.
