BNP on Tuesday submitted a letter to the United Nations calling for an international investigation into alleged "genocide" by the ousted Sheikh Hasina government during the student-led mass movement. BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury handed the letter to UN Resident Coordinator Gwyn Lewis at her Gulshan office in Bangladesh. Later, talking to reporters, he said BNP requested the UN to unearth the full extent of the incidents of the massacre and killings perpetrated against Bangladeshi citizens under the ‘illegal’ Awami League government through an impartial and transparent investigation that adheres to international standards. Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury stated that the letter would be forwarded to the UN headquarters from the UN Resident Coordinator's office.

ছাত্র-জনতার আন্দোলনে ক্ষমতাচ্যুত শেখ হাসিনা সরকার গণহত্যা চালিয়েছে বলে মন্তব্য করেছেন বিএনপির স্থায়ী কমিটির সদস্য আমীর খসরু মাহমুদ চৌধুরী। বিএনপির একটি প্রতিনিধি দল ‘গণহত্যা’র ব্যাপারে আন্তর্জাতিক তদন্ত চেয়ে জাতিসংঘকে চিঠি দিয়েছে। মঙ্গলবার (১৩ আগস্ট) দুপুরে গুলশানে জাতিসংঘের অফিসে গিয়ে সংস্থার আবাসিক সমন্বয়ক গোয়েন লুইসের কাছে এই চিঠি হস্তান্তর করেন দলের আমীর খসরু মাহমুদ চৌধুরী। এ সময়ে দলের সাংগঠনিক সম্পাদক শামা ওবায়েদও ছিলেন। পরে উপস্থিত সাংবাদিকদের কাছে আমীর খসরু মাহমুদ চৌধুরী বলেন, বাংলাদেশের রাজনীতির ইতিহাসে যে হত্যাযজ্ঞ হয়েছে, নাগরিকদের গুম করা হয়েছে তা উন্মোচন করা প্রয়োজন। জাতিকে কলঙ্কমুক্ত করতে হলে দেশের মধ্যে এবং দেশের বাইরে যে ঘটনার মাধ্যমে সরকারের পৃষ্ঠপোষকতায় এই হত্যাযজ্ঞ হয়েছে তা জাতির সামনে, বিশ্বের সামনে তুলে ধরতে হবে। যাতে আগামী দিনে বাংলাদেশে নিজের দেশের নাগরিকদের হত্যা করে জোর করে ক্ষমতায় থাকার আকাঙ্ক্ষা কারো না হয়। তিনি আরো বলেন, 'আমরা জাতিকে কলঙ্কমুক্ত করার জন্য একটি নিরপেক্ষ গ্রহণযোগ্য তদন্তের কথা বলেছি। জাতিসংঘকে জানানোর জন্য আমরা অন্তর্বর্তী সরকারকেও বলেছি।' তদন্তের বিষয়বস্তু সম্পর্কে আমীর খসরু বলেন, ‘এখানে গণহত্যার ওপরেই তদন্ত হবে। সরকারের সরাসরি পৃষ্ঠপোষকতায় যে গণহত্যা হয়েছে সে জন্য স্বচ্ছ, নিরপেক্ষ ও আন্তর্জাতিক মানের তদন্তের প্রয়োজন আছে।'
