Bodies of 7 Rohingyas recovered after boat capsize in Naf
Seven people, including four children, died drowning at Teknaf upazila in Cox's Bazar, after a boat, carrying Rohingyas fleeing Rakhine province in Myanmar due to the ongoing war between the Arakan Army and Myanmar army, capsized in Naf River.
At least eight people went missing in this accident.
The bodies were found floating on the Naf near Leda and Shahpari islands in Teknaf from Tuesday morning till afternoon. The bodies were later buried locally by Al Manahil Welfare Foundation Bangladesh.
A worker of that NGO in Cox's Bazar said, "Our foundation has recovered the bodies of seven Rohingyas. They were later buried locally.”
He said, “There was a pregnant woman among the dead. In the last one week, we have buried the bodies of 186 people who were shot dead and or died in boat capsize while trying to flee Myanmar. Most of the bodies were recovered from Naf near Shahpari Island.
Teknafer-2 battalion commander Lt Col Mohiuddin Ahmed said, "The bodies of some Rohingyas have floated in the Nafandi. They were recovered by local people and buried locally.”
A resident of Hnila, a border village, said Rohingyas are infiltrating Bangladesh due to the ongoing war between the Arakan Army and the Myanmar army in Rakhine State bordering Bangladesh. Yesterday, I heard that a boat carrying Rohingyas and crossing the Naf River was hit by a storm and the boat capsized. It is because of this that the bodies of Rohingyas are floating on Naf.
