Body of two children recovered from Tongi flat
The bloodied bodies of two young siblings were recovered from a flat in Tongi’s East Arichpur area on Friday afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as Abdullah Bin Omar, 4, and Maliha Akhtar, 6, children of Abdul Baten Mia, a resident of Tatuakandi village in Bancharampur upazila, Brahmanbaria.
The family had been living on the second floor of an eight-storey building in the Rupbaner Tek area under Tongi East Police Station.
According to police and family sources, the children’s mother, Saleha Begum, had taken medicine for a headache and fallen asleep. Upon waking around 4:30 pm, she discovered the bodies of her two children lying in a pool of blood inside the flat.
Family members believe that unidentified assailants entered the flat between 4:00 pm and 4:30pm, attacking the children with sharp weapons before fleeing the scene. Both children died on the spot.
The motive behind the heinous act remains unknown as law enforcement continues its investigation.
Tongi East Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Faridul Islam confirmed the incident to the media, saying, “On information, we rushed to the scene and have begun preparing a security report. The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made yet.”
