At this year's Amar Ekushey Book Fair, organized by Bangla Academy, sales data has been received from 351 out of the 703 participating institutions. These 351 publishing houses reported sales totaling approximately Tk20 crore. Bangla Academy estimates that the overall sales, including those from the remaining publishers, will amount to around Tk40 crore.

This information was provided in a press release signed by Sarkar Amin, Secretary of the Book Fair Committee, on the evening of Tuesday (March 4).

The press release clarified that there had been some confusion regarding the total sales figures at the fair. During the closing ceremony, the Secretary of the Fair Committee had reported that, as of February 27, Bangla Academy's sales amounted to approximately Tk61 lakh. However, many people mistakenly interpreted this figure as the total sales for the entire fair, leading to confusion, either unintentionally or by mistake.

The release also noted that a total of 721 institutions participated in this year's fair, with 18 being media and healthcare organizations, while the remaining 703 were publishing houses. Sales reports from 351 of these publishers have been received, totaling nearly Tk20 crore. The overall estimated sales, including those from the remaining publishers, is expected to reach around Tk40 crore.

According to the release from Bangla Academy, the total sales for the Academy itself amounted to Tk64 lakh 76 thousand 393. However, the sales figures for both this year and previous years are estimated based on the available data and information.

It is important to note that last year's 31-day book fair, held from February 1 to March 2, saw estimated sales of nearly Tk60 crore, with a total attendance of approximately 5 million people.
