Book reading competition for children held
A book reading competition for young students took place at the Bishwo Shahitto Kendro on Tuesday, organized by Nari Maitree and Educo Bangladesh. The event saw the participation of over a hundred students from 20 government and private primary schools in Dhaka.
The students began by presenting their reading to the jury board. The competition focused on correct pronunciation, fluency, punctuation, and comprehension. The children participated in the event in a lively and festive atmosphere.
After the competition, there was a session where the children expressed their thoughts, followed by speeches from the guests and a prize distribution ceremony. The children were thrilled to receive trophies, medals, certificates, books, colored pencils, and water flasks as prizes. The students shared that this was their first time participating in such a competition and expressed the belief that reading competitions are important for children.
Zahidul Islam, the news editor of Bangladesh Television and a special guest at the event, said, "The reading competition organized by Nari Maitree is truly a remarkable initiative. The more you read, the more you learn, and there is simply no substitute for reading books."
The chief guest, Abu Sayem Touhidul Islam, an education officer at the Directorate of Primary Education, said, “Nari Maitree provides free educational materials to every child in the schools it supports, which greatly benefits the students. They are thrilled to take part in the reading competition.”
Teachers, parents, and Nari Maitree officials also attended the event.
