BTRC instructs Aamra Technologies to pay all dues within 15 days
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has directed International Internet Gateway (IG) operator Aamra Technologies Limited to pay all dues within 15 days.
BTRC said it now owes Tk 25,09,85,000 to the company. This amount includes last year's license fee, revenue sharing, late fees and taxes.
BTRC said that the directive was issued by the commission due to non-payment of huge dues of Aamra Technologies. The company provides nationwide internet services as an IIG operator and was repeatedly warned by the commission for delaying payment of dues.
IIG operators play an important role in providing and maintaining internet connectivity in the country. However, failure to pay the dues may cause problems in service delivery by these companies. The authorities concerned are afraid of such a crisis in the case of Aamra Technologies.
The BTRC also said that the commission will take legal action against the company, if it fails to pay the due amount within 15 days.
An official of Aamra Technologies Limited said that they are preparing to pay the dues and the payment will be made within 15 days. "Due to some technical and administrative complications, we have delayed payment of dues, but we are trying to resolve the matter quickly," he said.
A BTRC official said Aamra Technologies had not paid its dues for a long time, which violated the commission's transaction code.
“Such activities can affect the overall stability of telecommunications sector in the country, so we have taken immediate action in this regard,” he said.
