Bulbul appointed BCB director, set to become president
Former Bangladesh cricket captain Aminul Islam Bulbul has been appointed a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) by the National Sports Council (NSC), clearing the path for his elevation to BCB president.
The NSC issued an official notification on Friday, a day after Bulbul was approved as an NSC-nominated councillor during an online meeting.
Bulbul’s appointment follows the dismissal of Faruque Ahmed, whose directorship was revoked Thursday night amid growing dissatisfaction within the board. During his nine-month tenure, a majority of BCB directors submitted a no-confidence letter to the sports advisor, leading to his removal.
Faruque had become BCB president after Nazmul Hassan Papon resigned from abroad following the fall of the Hasina government during the July movement. His presidency was also based on NSC nomination.
Now, through the same process, Bulbul is poised to take over the BCB leadership. The board of directors met Friday afternoon, and a majority vote could see him officially named president.
Speaking to the media, Bulbul made it clear he does not seek a long-term role. He intends to remain in charge only until the scheduled October election, aiming to ensure a free and fair electoral process. He also confirmed he will not contest in the election.
