Bus strikes third terminal at Airport, engineer killed
A senior civil aviation engineer was killed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Friday when a speeding bus of 'Raida Paribahan' lost control and broke the security wall at the airport's third terminal.
The incident occurred at around 10.00am in front of the Dhaka Elevated Expressway.
The deceased was identified as Maidul Islam Siddiqui, a Senior Deputy Assistant Engineer of Civil Aviation.
Airport Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Sumon Chandra Das confirmed the matter. He said, "A bus of Raida Paribahan lost control and broke through the security wall of the third terminal and entered inside. At that time, Engineer Maidul Islam was riding a motorcycle on the road. He was seriously injured when his motorcycle was crushed by the bus."
"Later, he was rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, " Sumon Chandra Das added.
The bus involved in the accident has been seized but the driver and helper fled the scene.
