CA Yunus urges youth to form ‘Three Zero Clubs’ to save the planet
Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has urged young people to take action by forming ‘three zero clubs’ aimed at protecting the planet from environmental destruction. Speaking at Soka University, Tokyo, Prof. Yunus warned that the current civilization is unsustainable and threatens human survival.
“The civilization we are building today is self-destructive and will ultimately destroy the planet,” he said during his lecture.
Prof. Yunus introduced his ‘three zero theory,’ which calls for zero carbon emissions, zero wealth concentration, and zero unemployment. He highlighted the growing disparity in wealth, noting that a small fraction of people hold the majority of global wealth — a situation he described as “a curse for all.”
He also addressed the challenges of rising unemployment and the impact of artificial intelligence on the job market.
On the ‘three zero clubs,’ Prof. Yunus proposed that groups of five commit to avoiding fossil fuels and promote sustainable living.
Calling on the younger generation to unleash their creativity, he said, “The pursuit of jobs often stifles creativity. Every human being is born to be an entrepreneur.”
Prof. Yunus encouraged the formation of social business clubs to foster entrepreneurship and innovation.
He also shared how his journey began with microcredit in a small village near Chittagong University, where he previously served as an economics professor.
In recognition of his efforts in social innovation and global development, Soka University awarded Prof. Yunus an Honorary Doctorate Degree. University President Suzuki also spoke at the event.
