Candidates making wide range of promises

Campaigning for the upcoming Mymensingh City Corporation (MCC) polls is going on in full swing with mayoral and councillor candidates coming up with a wide range of promises for building a smart city.

Already, the posters and banners of the mayoral and councillor candidates have covered up the cityscape, creating a festive atmosphere among the city dwellers.

In their campaigns, all the five mayoral candidates are going from door to door of the voters making various lucrative promises of development to build a modern and smart city.

The five mayoral candidates vying for the upcoming MCC polls, scheduled for March 9, are: former MCC mayor and metropolitan Awami League President Md Ikramul Haque Titu (table clock), district Awami League President Ehteshamul Alam (horse), district Awami League adviser Sadekul Haque Khan Milky (elephant), Jatiya Party's Md Shahidul Islam (plough) and former central member of Krishak League Md Rezaul Haque (deer).

Md Ikramul Haque Titu carried out campaigning at ward no-31 in the city on Tuesday (February 27). During the time, addressing a road meeting, he said, “I have done my best for the last five years for the development of the city corporation as well as the city dwellers. As a recognition of my hard work, I am now seeking your vote to complete the unfinished development works I started for the city. Give me an opportunity to serve you again by voting for the 'table clock' symbol.”

He promised to transform Mymensingh into a thriving city as part of building Smart Bangladesh.

On the same day, Sadekul Haque Khan, an independent candidate vying for the mayoral post with ‘elephant’ symbol, campaigned at Sankipara and ward no-24 areas in the city, holding road meetings and communicating with the mass people.

He has made various promises in his election manifesto. For example, making Mymensingh city smart, readjusting holding tax, freeing the city of traffic congestion and air pollution, and constructing overbridges and flyovers on important roads.

He also promised to widen and improve the drainage systems to eliminate waterlogging, take initiatives to upgrade Mymensingh Medical College to a medical university, relocate the inter-district bus terminal to a convenient location, to dredge the Brahmaputra river to bring back navigability and to construct walkways along river banks.
