Cease new Rohingya infiltration
Is there no way for Bangladesh to escape the Rohingya crisis? For seven years, one million Rohingyas have been stuck in Bangladesh. Now, there is a new wave of Rohingya infiltration into Bangladesh. The arrival of Rohingyas from Myanmar to Bangladesh means they get stuck, posing a huge threat to Bangladesh's socio-economic and political situation.
Yesterday, Thursday (June 27), news reports revealed that panic has spread along the Teknaf border. As a result, there are fears of new Rohingya infiltration into Bangladesh. According to available information, the intensity of the conflict between the junta forces and rebels has increased in Maungdaw, Rakhine State, Myanmar. Due to the intensified fighting between the Arakan Army, which seeks independence, and the Myanmar military in Rakhine State, many Rohingya citizens have left their homes and gathered at the border to flee the country, according to locals in the border area.
However, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has taken a firm stance. It has been reported that Rohingyas have gathered near several areas, including the Khayenkhali canal near Maungdaw town on the other side of the Naf River. Locals in the border area have expressed concerns that these Rohingyas are attempting to cross the border and infiltrate Teknaf. From 5 PM yesterday to this morning, continuous sounds of mortar shells and bomb explosions have been heard in the Kawarbil and Perangparu areas of Myanmar.
The intensity of the conflict between the Arakan Army and the government forces is increasing in those areas. The ongoing fighting between Myanmar's government forces and the Arakan Army, an armed group seeking independence, has been raging for three and a half months. Bangladesh is facing multiple challenges due to this crisis. To resolve this issue, the Bangladeshi government should urgently seek international cooperation. The government of Bangladesh must halt any further Rohingya infiltration at all costs. If new Rohingya infiltration occurs, it will cause even greater harm to Bangladesh.
