CEC reports over 30% voter turnout in 2nd phase of upazila polls"
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal stated that more than 30 percent of votes were cast during the second phase of the sixth Upazila Parishad election. election.
The CEC made this statement while addressing the press at Agargaon Election Bhaban in the capital on Tuesday, May 21.
Earlier this morning, voting began at 8:00 am in 156 upazilas and continued till 4:00 pm.
Voter turnout was low in the polling stations. Apart from this, some sporadic incidents of violence took places in different parts of the country.
EC secretary Jahangir Alam said, "The voter turnout was about 17 percent in the first four hours of the second phase of upazila elections."
In the 156 upazila parishads, a total of 1,824 candidates participated in the election, with 603 of them vying for the chairman position. These candidates contested for a total of 468 posts, which include chairman, vice chairman, and women vice chairman roles in each upazila.
