Chattogram city goes under water
Chattogram City has been submerged in water due to continuous rain under influence of the cyclonic storm Remal.
Patenga Meteorological Office has recorded 238.4 millimeters of rainfall in Chattogram in the last 12 hours till 12 noon on Monday (May 27). Meanwhile, due to continuous rainfall, various areas including the lower areas of the city have been submerged in water, causing suffering to city dwellers.
Met official MHM Mosaddek said that Cyclone Remal hit the coast of Bangladesh around 8 pm on Sunday.
There is a possibility of rain all day on Monday and Tuesday under its influence.
Chattogram City Chawkbazar, Kapasgola, Bahaddarhat, Badurtala, Muradpur, Gate Number 2, Prabartak Mor, Wasar Mor, Tin Poler Matha, Mehedibagh, CDA Colony, Agrabad, Halishahar, various residential areas adjacent to Halishahar, Biojid, GEC, Motherbari, CDA Residential, Various areas including Katalganj, DC Road, Baklia, Barapole, Chaktai, Khatunganj are submerged in knee-deep water.
Apart from this, coastal areas of Patenga, Jelepara near Akmal Ali Road, Khejurtala, Rani Rasmoni Ghat, North Kattali area have also been submerged in tidal water.
Meanwhile, in addition to the main road and low-lying areas, various high-altitude areas have been submerged under heavy water pressure. The residents of the ground floor of these areas have suffered more. They are also in trouble due to water entering their homes.
Besides, miking is being done to safely evacuate the people of the dangerous hilly areas of the city and upazilas.
The work of evacuating people living on many hills has been started since Sunday afternoon. Even on Sunday night, Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman himself visited Akmal Ali Ghat, Rasmoni Ghat, Jheel No. 1 area of the city and requested the residents to stay at a safe distance.
Meanwhile, in addition to the city, various parts of the district have also been flooded. In addition to Sitakunda, Raujan, Lohagara and Fatikchari upazilas, several other areas have also been flooded due to rain and tidal water.
