Chattogram city's waterlogging is man-made: Adviser Fouzul
Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan has said that the problem of waterlogging in the port city is entirely man-made.
He said, "Those who were in charge of the city and the CDA chairman in the past are responsible for creating this waterlogging. I studied at a primary school, high school, and Chattogram College in this city, but I have never seen such waterlogging before."
Fauzul Kabir Khan made these remarks on Tuesday (13 May) while visiting the Agrabad Box Culvert, Mahesh Khal, Nazir Khal, and Birza Khal in Chattogram city. Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, along with other senior officials, was also present during the visit.
While observing the ongoing canal excavation and cleaning drive in Chattogram, Fauzul Kabir Khan said that solving the waterlogging problem is not possible for any single organization. All citizens need to come forward. From the administration's side, all necessary preparations have been completed. Now it’s the citizens’ responsibility to be aware and responsible.
He also said that shops, houses, and even sugar warehouses built on the canals have been removed. Despite many challenges, efforts are being made to restore the canals to their original state. The army and navy have also been involved in this work.
Calling on the city residents, the adviser said that if anyone throws garbage into the canals again after cleaning, it will waste all efforts. Instructions have been given to dispose of garbage in designated places. Strict legal action will be taken against anyone who throws waste outside those areas.
