Chief adviser consoles Shahid Abu Sayeed's parents
Chief Adviser of the interim government Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus has visited the house of Shahid Abu Sayeed in Rangpur who was shot dead by the police during the quota reform movement, and consoled his parents.
Dr Yunus reached Babanpur village of Pirganj upazila in the district on Saturday (August 10) morning, visited Sayeed's grave and talked to the family members for a while.
He handed over the national flag to Sayeed's parents and family members.
The chief adviser was accompanied by the adviser on post, telecommunication and information technology affairs Md Nahid Islam and Youth and sports adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan.
Earlier, after arriving at Dhaka airport on Thursday from France, Dr Yunus became emotional remembering Abu Sayeed.
He said, "At this moment, I am remembering Abu Sayeed, whose image is etched in the memory of every Bangladeshi. No one can forget him. What an incredibly brave young man he was! He stood at gunpoint and since then the students’ movement has not given up. He stepped forward and said, 'No matter how many shots are fired, we are here’.”
Mentionable, Abu Sayeed led the protest from the front during the movement. He was the main coordinator of the Students Against Discrimination at BRU in quota reform movement. Shahid Sayeed was a student of English department in BRU.
Sayeed was shot dead by the police during the protest on July 16. The next day he was buried in Pirganj upazila.
