Child killed in devastating fire at Rohingya camp, 150 homes burned

A devastating fire at the Rohingya camp in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, destroyed more than 150 homes, claiming the life of a five-year-old girl, Ayesha Siddika, and injuring five others. Three people are still missing.

The fire erupted at 11:00 pm on Thursday (January 16) in Block G-2 of Camp 26, Nayapara Muchuni. Ayesha, the daughter of Ibrahim from the same block, lost her life inside a burning home. The identities of the injured and missing individuals are yet to be confirmed.

Badrul Islam, a community leader of Nayapara Refugee Camp-26, said, "The fire was brought under control after an hour of efforts by Rohingya residents and camp firefighters. Tragically, the blaze claimed the life of a child, injured five people, and left three others missing."

Camp in-charge Md Mostak Ahmed said, "More than 150 homes have been destroyed, and we are actively working to gather more details about the casualties and damages."
