China to support Bangladesh to join BRICS
Appreciating Bangladesh's interest in joining BRICS, Sun Weidong, Vice Minister of China’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, assured the country’s support to Bangladesh in getting the membership.
In the 13th round of bilateral political discussion held between Bangladesh and China in Beijing on Monday (June 3), both sides agreed to work together on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's upcoming visit to China next month.
Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen led the Bangladesh delegation and Sun Weidong led the Chinese delegation.
According to Foreign Ministry sources, the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations, increasing economic ties, trade and investment and exploring opportunities for cooperation on multilateral platforms.
At the meeting, Sun Weidong expressed China's interest in importing mangoes and other agricultural products from Bangladesh and working together to develop the skills of the youth. He also assured of support for speedy repatriation of the Rohingyas who have taken refuge in Bangladesh.
Weidong said that the embassies of the two countries in Dhaka and Beijing can work together to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
On the other hand, Masud Bin Momen explained about Bangladesh's growing economy and sought China's support in simplifying the existing framework of Duty Free Quota Free (DFQF) access of Bangladeshi goods to China.
He also thanked China for its support in infrastructure development including several mega projects.
