China wants to import mangoes from Bangladesh
China wants to buy mangoes from Bangladesh this year. The country has expressed interest to send an expert delegation to visit mango orchards in Bangladesh during the mango ripening period.
The delegation wants to come to Bangladesh in early June. Based on the report of the delegation, China's customs department will give the final approval for the import of mangoes from Bangladesh.
Chinese Ambassador to Dhaka Yao Wen expressed this interest during a courtesy call to Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdus Shahid at the Secretariat on Monday (April 29).
Additional Secretary to the agriculture ministry Malay Chowdhury and Song Yang, economic and commercial counselor of the Chinese Embassy to Dhaka, were also present at the meeting.
Urging for Chinese investment in agricultural sector in Bangladesh, Abdus Shahid said, “Bangladesh needs Chinese investment and technical assistance in modernizing and mechanizing the agricultural sector. Chinese assistance is need for the farmers so that they can buy modern agricultural equipment at a cheaper price. We can buy modern machineries from China at a comparatively affordable price.”
