Chinese engineer dies in boiler explosion in Gazipur battery factory

A Chinese engineer, Piu Xuqi, 52, has been killed in a boiler explosion at a battery manufacturing factory in Kashimpur, Gazipur. Six others were injured in the incident.

The incident took place at the Tong Ruida Industry factory in Palash Housing area of South Panishail around 7: 30pm on Tuesday (April 16).

Kashimpur police station Inspector (Investigation) Md Mohiuddin confirmed the matter.

He said the factory was in the process of opening on Tuesday after Eid. But as the boiler did not start, the Chinese engineers and others went to repair it. The explosion took place at around 7 in the morning. The Chinese engineer was killed on the spot and six others were burnt to death. On information, police and fire service personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the injured and sent them to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College and Hospital.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Abu Torab Mohammad Shamsur Rahman said one of the injured was sent to Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute in Dhaka for better treatment. His name is Amal Ghosh (32). The other five are undergoing treatment at Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial KPJ Hospital.
