The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has decided to investigate Jahangir Alam, known as "Pani Jahangir," who previously worked at Sheikh Hasina's residence, Sudha Sadan. He is accused of laundering money abroad and is said to have made Tk400 crore.

A press statement from CID's Special Superintendent of Police (media), Azad Rahman, announced today (October 1) that Jahangir, who owns AK Real Estate Limited, allegedly sent a large amount of money to the United States through hundi.

Jahangir worked at Sheikh Hasina's residence, Sudha Sadan, where he was in charge of delivering food and water during different events. This earned him the nickname "Pani Jahangir."

After Sheikh Hasina became prime minister, he kept his job in her household. However, Jahangir, who was also the former vice president of the Noakhali District Awami League, started calling himself a personal assistant to the former prime minister. He claimed to have significant influence and accumulated a lot of wealth.

He has built up a lot of assets in both Noakhali and Dhaka, according to the statement.

The statement says that Jahangir has assets worth over Tk400 crore. His wife, Kamrun Nahar, has assets valued at Tk7.3 crore. This includes a 2,360 sq ft apartment in Dhanmondi, a car, and Tk73 lakh for business, as well as Tk1.17 crore in bank deposits.

The CID claims that Jahangir owns agricultural and non-agricultural land worth Tk4 crore in his home district. He has two shops in Mohammadpur and New Market, a seven-story building, and two flats in Mirpur, a one-story house in his village, and a four-story house on his ancestral land in Chatkhil, Noakhali.

His movable assets include Tk2.52 crore in cash and bank deposits, a DPS of Tk2.75 lakh, an FDR of Tk1.3 crore, and his wife’s bank balance of Tk27.97 lakh, along with a DPS of Tk18.75 lakh and investments in partnership firms worth Tk6.24 crore.

Earlier, on August 20, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) started an investigation into Jahangir for alleged corruption and wrongdoing.
