Circular seeking information for investigation into Abontika’s death issued

For the sake of a fair investigation, the investigation committee has issued a circular seeking information and evidence about the implication of accused assistant proctor Din Islam in the suicide of Fairuz Abontika, a student of the law department of Jagannath University (JnU).

The circular signed by member secretary of the committee and JnU deputy registrar advocate Ranjan Kumar Das was issued as per the order of the convenor of the investigation committee On Monday (March 18).

According to the circular, a high-level investigation committee has been formed to investigate and submit a report on the involvement of the university's Management Studies Department Assistant Professor Din Islam in Abontika’s suicide. Facts and relevant evidence are required for proper investigation.

It also said if anyone has any information and suitable evidence, he or she is requested to submit it to the convenor of the investigation committee Dr Md Zakir Hossain by March 20 to cooperate in the investigation.

Mentionable, Abontika, a student of the 2017-18 academic year of JnU, committed suicide by hanging herself after posting her suicide note on Facebook last Friday. In the note, she blamed his classmate Amman Siddiqui and Din Islam. After her death, the university authorities formed a five-member probe committee led by president of the university's teachers' association Professor Dr Zakir Hossain.
