Clash over mosque funds leaves dozens injured in Habiganj
Over 100 people were injured in a clash between two groups over mosque funds in Habiganj.
Around 50 of the critically injured were admitted to the Habiganj Modern Sadar Hospital.
Habiganj Sadar Model police sation Officer-in-Charge (OC) Alamgir Kabir said the incident occurred on Saturday morning in Teghoria Union under Habiganj Sadar Upazila.
According to local sources, a dispute arose over Tk1.4 million belonging to the mosque in Tongirghat village between two elders of the same village, Md Taibullah and Alhaj Mia.
As the mosque currently lacks a committee, Alhaj Mia wanted to use the funds for the mosque’s development, while Taibullah and his group insisted the money be deposited in a bank.
A meeting was held in the village on Friday night to resolve the issue.
During the meeting, arguments and scuffles broke out, leading to a clash on Saturday morning.
Later, police intervened and brought the situation under control.
The OC said legal actions would be taken against those responsible following an investigation if any complaints are filed.
