Closing schools based on temperature not reasonable: Education Minister
According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, the temperature is likely to reach 40 degrees Celsius in five districts. But it is not reasonable to close all educational institutions across the country based on this forecast. The mentality of deciding to close all the schools across the country considering the temperature of Dhaka city only should also be avoided.
Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury came up with the observation after inaugurating the Technical Education and Vocational Education Week-2024 at Dhaka Women's Polytechnic Institute at Agargaon in the capital on Sunday (April 28).
He said, “The issue of the learning of our students is very important. We have to make decisions not based on popularity, but based on reality. The temperature of Dhaka city is not the temperature of the country. In some districts, if the temperature becomes unbearable, the schools can make their own decisions there.”
The education minister said, “The educational institutions were closed on Saturday considering a particular situation. Considering the new curriculum, we are discussing whether it would be right to close the schools on Saturday for the entire year. As we have already missed 10 days of teaching at the moment, it has been decided to keep the schools open on Saturday. Later, if needed, the decision can be changed.”
State Minister for Education Begum Shamsun Nahar, Secretary of Technical and Madrasa Education Division Dr Farid Uddin Ahmed, and Director General of the Directorate of Technical Education Md Aziz Taher Khan, among others, also attended the event.
