Combined operation after Eid against chemical warehouses in old Dhaka: DSCC Mayor
Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has said that he would go for combing operations against illegal chemical warehouses across old Dhaka following the celebration of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.
While addressing a programme in Dhaka, the DSCC mayor made the announcement on Tuesday, against the backdrop of frequent fire incidents occurring elsewhere in the country, claiming lives and causing harm to properties.
A fire incident occurred in the area a few days ago, and such incidents are happening regularly elsewhere, he said, adding, “In these circumstances, we can no longer keep the old part of the capital Dhaka vulnerable.”
Citing that the government has constructed warehouses in Shyampur Industrial area specifically for transferring chemical substances there, Taposh said, “It is regrettable that only one person has gone there so far. We gave him a tread license.”
Another trader has already submitted an application to shift his business there, and all arrangements have been made for them, said the DSCC mayor.
“I am requesting through this programme to those engaged in the chemical business in Old Dhaka to shift their operations to Shyampur Industrial area. You must apply to the industry ministry following relevant law for relocating there. If it is not done, we will conduct combing operations after Eid.”
