Condition of 16 critical, 5 in ICU

The 34 critically injured people who got burnt due to gas cylinder explosion in Topstar area at Kaliakoir in Gazipur on Wednesday night have been admitted to Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.

Of them, 16 are in critical condition and five of them have been kept in ICU. The rest are not out of danger still, said Assistant Director of the institute Hossain Imam Imu on Wednesday midnight.

Akash Khan, a witness of the explosion, said, “On Wednesday afternoon, a person named Shafiq from Topstar area at Kaliakoir brought a gas cylinder to his house for cooking. But when it was connected to the stove, gas started leaking out. Shafiq then left the gas cylinder on the road. At that time, all the women, men and children of the area gathered to see the cylinder. Many people watched standing in front of the gate of their house. After a while the cylinder caught fire and exploded, burning everyone critically.”
