Constable Kawsar placed on 7-day remand
A Dhaka court has placed policeman Kawsar Ali, who reportedly shot another constable in the Baridhara diplomatic zone, on a seven-day remand.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shakil Ahammad passed the order after police placed Kawsar before his court with a 10-day remand plea on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, a case was filed
over the Saturday night's incident where an on-duty police constable was shot dead by his colleague.
Mahbubul Alam, brother of the deceased Md Monirul, 27, filed the case with Gulshan Police Station against Kawsar Ali.
According to a statement issued by the police, Kawsar opened fire on his colleague Monirul around 11:45pm on Saturday while both were performing duties.
CCTV footage obtained from the Palestine Embassy showed that, Monirul and Kawsar were in a heated altercation at around 11:40pm. At one point, Monirul showed Kawsar a duty notebook. Almost instantly, Kawsar started shooting at Monirul.
Kawsar fired several more rounds directly at Monirul and later pointed an SMT gun at a vehicle whuch was passing by.
Later, police captured Kawsar from the spot early Sunday and shown him arrested in the case.
