Cricketers oppose to play under female umpire in DPL
Two clubs have objected to playing in the DPL, citing the presence of women umpires as their reason. Consequently, the match began later than scheduled due to the players' objections.
Iftekhar Rahman Mithu, the chairman of the BCB Umpires Committee, stated that the incident occurred during the controversial match between Prime Bank and Mohammedan Sporting Club.
Shathira Jakir Jessy was the field umpire along with Moniruzzaman in the Super League match between Prime Bank and Mohammedan on Thursday (April 25). Upon seeing the female umpire, both teams' cricketers and officials expressed anger and disappointment on the field. Consequently, the match couldn't commence at the scheduled time. After a 15-minute delay, the game began with Jessy officiating.
Iftekhar Ahmed Mithu said, "Initially, the two teams raised objections but later accepted. Jessy is an ICC Official International Umpire, indicating that she underwent evaluation for her role. Rejecting her now would constitute discrimination."
Sathira Zakir Jessy is an ICC panel umpire, endorsed by the cricket governing body. Despite this official approval, both teams in the DPL appear to have disregarded the established rules. Consequently, both parties are subject to potential punishment. The CCDM will make the final decision based on the match official's report.
